From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of characters who will branch out from the main group to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.
This warrior group consists of Teor (played by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.
What Defines the Combat Party
As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing started the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.
Casimir then cleared his debts and fled to a secure base in the remote area, beyond the city, with Cyd close behind.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, desires retribution.
- Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a hostile location.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
- However, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could enable the group enter places they usually can’t.
- Moreover, Teor swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and Wicander turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.
This means them few options but to journey toward the remote area in quest for the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Explorers and Planners groups.
Audiences can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
